                                       THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

                                   O CAMINHO NÃO TRILHADO

                                                                                                I

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood                 Dois caminhos divergiam num bosque dourado

And sorry I could not travel both                           E pena tive de não poder seguir por ambos

And be one traveller, long I stood                         Caminhando solitário, longamente ali me quedei

And looked down one as far as I could                Olhando para um deles tão longe quanto pude

To where it bent in the undergrowth                   Até onde desaparecia na vegetação.

                                                                                           II

Then took the other, just as fair                               Então tomei o outro, igualmente belo

And having perhaps the better claim                   Que possuía talvez alguma vantagem

Because it was grassy and wanted wear             Por ter um tapete d'erva que apetecia calcar

Though as for the passing there                             Apesar d'aqueles que neles passaram

Had worn them really about the same                  Em ambos terem deixado marcas quase iguais

                                                                                         III

And both that morning equally lay                         E os dois naquela manhã ali estavam

In leaves no step had trodden black                       Cobertos de folhas ainda por pisar

Oh! I kept the first for another day !                       Oh! Guardarei o primeiro para outro dia !

Yet knowing how way leads on to way                  Sabendo que me levaria a outros lados

I doupted if I should ever come back                      Duvidei que alguma vez voltasse atrás.

                                                                                       IV

I shall be telling this with a sigh :                                Estarei dizendo isto com um suspiro :

Somewhere ages and ages hence                             Algures há muitos e muitos anos

Two roads diverged in a wood and I,                        Dois caminhos divergiam num bosque e eu,

I took the less travelled by,                                            Eu escolhi o menos trilhado

And that has made all the difference                         E isso fez toda a diferença.

                                  Robert Frost   (1874-1963)
